Missing key quality
Trump and Musk are deeply damaged individuals, incapable of the emotional discernment needed to embrace the public good. The insults they suffered under their fathers as children wired their brains so they can not feel empathy for others; their brains developed to reach psychological safety only through personal success, in Trump’s case even through cheating, in Musk’s case earned through real engineering talent.
They are literally blind to the harm they cause to individuals; Musk will never acknowledge the relation of cause and effect with the recent death of a little boy in Africa and their shuttering USAID. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/03/15/opinion/foreign-aid-cuts-impact.html and yet, Peter Donde’s death is on him, as are hundreds of others with more to come as a result of his appetite for chainsaw massacres.
Trump’s narcissistic personality defect is well understood by now; his takeover of the Republican Party is complete and his bid to achieve dictatorial power clearly advanced. He is the first president to run the executive branch like a mafia don.
They understand tribal power, they know lust, for sex, for revenge, for power; they cannot understand statesmanship because they cannot feel love. They are fundamentally and fatally defective.
No matter how rich, how clever, how powerful, they are unfit to lead any public entity.
No function in public office can be discharged properly without a personal substratum of attraction for human decency. They were denied the development of that fount.
They will destroy everything they have built and take their sad empires down with them before they change their personalities.
Trump belongs in jail, Musk back in tech.
Lesson learned: we need a constitutional rail separating wealth and state.
